Recount 2 (Part two)

1.       Hideki Suma wants to destroy the USA with about 40 atomic bombs. These wouldn’t kill many people because he plants it not in cities but the electrons of the detonations would kill all communications.
2.       Would this happen Japan would have the most powerful economy power in the world. And he wants to make this as a vengeful act because the USA destroyed Japan in the Second World War.
3.       After Moro was killed by Dirk he and his girlfriend kidnapped Mr. Suma and went back to the USA. Because Mr. Suma was very suspicious he didn’t give the start codes for the atomic bombs anyone else. So they couldn’t detonate the bombs.
4.       And after 3 weeks the special agencies of the USA found all the bombs and defused them.
5.        After this mission Dirk Pitt has taken holydays for about two months with his new wife Lora.

Recount 2 (Part One)

List the 10 most important things about the text you are reading.

  1.  Dirk Pitt is the main character in this story. He is very smart and he has the greatest ideas in the most interesting moments. And so he really can’t die in the story because he is too smart for the villains.
  2. Pitt’s girlfriend, Lora, is a senator of the United States of America. In this story she gets kidnapped from an evil Japanese man who wants to destroy the USA. Only Pitt was capable to help her to escape from this man.
  3. This Japanese is called Hideki Suma and his right hand and “personal killer” Moro Kamatori are the opponents of Dirk Pitt.
  4. Moro Kamatori’s favorite art to kill someone is in a game like in a cat and mouse game. He, only with a katana (that’s the usually samurai sword) is hunting on a big island his opponents. The opponents have no chance because they have no weapon and Moro have dogs which helps him to find them. It’s only a matter of time.
  5.  Dirk Pitt only survived Moro’s game because he was very smart and he deceived his death. While Moro was thinking Pitt killed himself Pitt freed his girlfriend and kill Moro with an axe.

Empathy 2

Write down 5 questions you would like to ask a character. Say why you would like to ask these questions.
Questions I’d like to ask Dirk Pitt the central figure in the story.
1)      Why are you still working for the NUMA (National Underwater and Marine Agency)? You have enough money with your jet and your old-timers.
2)      Why do you like diving or respectively the sea more than everything else in your life?
3)      Why do you don’t want to marry your girlfriend at the beginning? She’s beautiful and successfully as seconded of the USA.
4)      How long ago did you first meet Al Giordino, your best friend and diving partner?
5)      What do you think; after this job for the US government will you live a peacefully life or go on with missions and dangerous work? I mean you could only watch at your old-timers or is that too boring for you?

Analysis 2

Write about some repetition or pattern you have noticed.
This book isn’t the first book from Clive Cussler I have red. And the most obviously repetition in all books is that the Author is a supporting actor. In this one, Dragon, Clive drives in an old-timer race against Dirk Pitt. In another I’ve read, Sahara, Clive is a prospector. This short appearance of the author is called “Cameo appearance” and is much known from Alfred Hitchcock.
I’ve read about 4 books from Clive Cussler and in all of them he had a cameo appearance. In the book “Shock Wave” is Clive a chief engineer of a mine in Colorado and he helps Dirk Pitt with a permission to get in the mine.
In the Internet I found a site on which stand all books with all cameo appearance of the autor Clive Cussler.

Prediction

At any point in the story take a guess as to how the story (plot) will go on or finally conclude. What is going to happen.
I don’t know the end of the book but I have red other books from Clive Cussler. And they always have a happy end so I think this one will have one too. If it has a happy end Dirk Pitt will successfully destroy the Island with the atomic bomb and kill the terrorists. But this is very difficult because he has to drop the bomb in a crevice. The detonation will make a big tsunami which rolls over the island and the earthquake will let the hole island sank under water.
I hope Pitt is fast enough in his submersible so that he won’t get hit from the atomic bomb. Unfortunately his deep sea submersible is very slow and so the American government doesn’t think he will come back from this mission.

Recount

In your own words what has happened in the book? At any point in the story, retell the major details of the story's plot so far.

Japan 1945: Two U.S. bombers take off with atomic bombs. Only one gets trough, the other was shot down from a Japanese hunter aircraft.
Japan / America 1993: Japanese terrorists want to restore Japan's former glory by taking out the United States economy by planting nuclear bombs. The only hope for the world is Dirk Pitt and the huge atomic bomb on the ground of the pacific.
Dirk Pitt has a very difficult task because he has to salvage the atomic bomb in a deep sea Submersible and transport it about 30km underwater. When he arrived at his target point he has to drop the bomb to destroy a Japanese Island. Because the terrorists are on this island and they have the igniter for the about 40 atomic bombs they planted in the USA.

Text with the words:
The devil clutched a bomb in his left hand, a pitchfork in his right, and smirked impishly. He might have appeared menacing if it wasn't for the exaggerated eyebrows and the half-moon eyes. They gave him more of a sleepy gremlin look than the fiendish expression expected from the ruler of hell. Yet he wore the customary red suit and sprouted regulation horns and long forked tail. Oddly, the clawlike toenails of his feet were curled over a gold bar that was labeled 24 K.
In black letters above and below the circled figure on the fuselage of the B-29 bomber were the words Dennings' Demons.
The aircraft, named for its commander and crew, sat like a forlorn ghost under a sheet of rain driven southward over the Aleutian Islands by a wind from the Bering Sea. A battery of portable lights illuminated the area beneath the open belly of the plane, casting wavering shadows from the ground crew on the glistening aluminum body, Flashes of lightning added to the haunting scene, stabbing the darkness of the airfield with disturbing frequency.
